Nick started sailing at the age of 6 years old.  Opti dinghies was the boat of choice like many other kids who grew up sailing.  His first regatta was held on a small inland lake in the middle of Ohio.  His parents and coach had no idea what would happen next.  Nick went on to win his very first regatta and many more after that.  One could argue that he was hooked on sailing for life.

At the age of 15 and many regattas later he started spending is after school hours at the local sail loft learning how to repair sails and of course going sailing as much as he could.  After a few years he worked his way up the chain in the loft and was eventually was promoted to floor manager which involved cutting out and building new sails.  Nick has a total of 15 years in the sail making business.   His knowledge for sails goes deep and his passion for teaching sail shape and trim goes even deeper.

Along the way Nick has spent time racing on a wide variety of sail boats from small dinghys such as lasers and 420's, to thistles and lightnings, all the way up to larger boats such as Farr 40's.  His strong suites include rig tune, sail set up and trim, and racing tactics and strategy.

Thoughout the years as well he realized his passion for coaching sailing.  Watching a sailor exceed their expecatations and the joy it brings them is why he enjoys it so much.  These reasons are  why he decided to start Turney Sailing Services.
